POSITION:
HISTORICAL INTERPRETER – BATTLE MEMORIAL BUILDING (student)

HOURS OF WORK:
variable up to 36.25 hours per week

LOCATION:
Upper Canada Village
(11 km east of Morrisburg)

SALARY:
$17.40 per hour

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT:
May 3 to September 2, 2024

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?

You will:
• Be a representative of one of Morrisburg’s premium and internationally recognized tourism sites.
• Interpret aspects of the early Canadian military history and specifically the War of 1812 and the Battle of Crysler’s Farm.
• Assist with school and youth group programs visiting the National Historic Site and Battle Memorial Building 
• Work safely at all times and report unsafe activities immediately to your supervisor.
• Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
• Note: This position may be combined and include the duties of the Historical Interpreter position.

HOW DO I QUALIFY?

You have:
• The ability to greet and communicate effectively to large numbers of people of various ages and backgrounds.
• Knowledge and interest in early Canadian military history, historical re-enactments and events.
• The ability to study and learn the interpretive and historical material related to this position and the Village.
• The ability to perform physical duties and demonstrations associated with this position.
• The ability to wear historical costume and corporate uniform.
• The ability to perform and learn the skills associated with this position (e.g. military drill demonstrations, teaching, role playing).
• The ability to work independently.
• The ability to learn all safety protocols and procedures to ensure personal, visitor and fellow staff safety is maintained at all times.

Student Status: You must be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution (currently or for the fall semester) OR you must have graduated within the past six months (for example, if you graduated in December, you can apply for and start a summer student position up until June of the following year).
